Some state contractors caught off guard by new insurance mandate The State of Utah, thanks in part to President Obama's stimulus package, plans to inject millions into the state's economy this summer repairing aging infrastructure. But some construction firms already busy mending Utah's roads and bridges were caught off guard last week when they received letters informing them of drastic changes in the state's health insurance guidelines scheduled to take effect July 1. Signed into law in March, House Bill 331 mandates that some state departments require construction companies with contracts valued at $1.5 million or more and subcontractors with contracts of $750,000 or more to provide health care to their employees and their families. more... |
